Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) donates $10,000 to Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) in Efforts to Eradicate Human Trafficking

Transportation Intermediaries Association, TIA, announced on May 12, 2021, that they partnered and donated $10,000 to the Truckers Against Trafficking, TAT, in efforts to combat human trafficking in the transportation Industry. The donation will go towards the TAT’s Shipper Partner Program that specializes in educating suppliers on the impact of human trafficking, how to become proactive against it, and eradicating human trafficking.

As the voice of the third-party logistics industry, TIA announced during day two the Opening Session of the TIA 2021 Capital Idea Conference in front of a virtual audience of 300 participants across the 3PL and freight brokerage industry. Anne Reinke, President, and CEO of TIA, Michael Riccio, TIA Board Chair, Kendis Paris, TAT Executive Director, and Cofounder, to discuss how members of the transportation industry can collaborate to endeavor prevention towards human trafficking on America’s roadways.

TAT has three main goals to saturate trucking, bus, and energy industries with information and materials; to partner with law enforcement and government agencies to facilitate the investigation of human trafficking; and to marshal the resources of our partners to combat this crime. TAT has a superior track record on delivering the goals with more than 87% of every dollar donates goes directly to their human trafficking programs and services.

“The transportation industry and, more specifically, truck drivers, play a critical role in combating human trafficking,” said Michael Riccio, CTB, Chief Marketing Officer of Leonard’s Express and TIA’s Incoming Board Chairman. “It is critical that we continue to educate, train, and engage with law enforcement and others in our industry to stop this horrible crime, and partnering with Kendis and Truckers Against Trafficking will help position TIA to do just that.”

TIA’s partnership with TAT follows the Association formally signing the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking initiative during Day 1 of the conference.

Dachser Air Receives CEIV Pharma Certification Expanding Companies Network Services Globally

In March 2021, Dachser’s fifth location, Shanghai, is to receive the Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics certification (CEIV Pharma) that will expand the company’s network services for its customers, specifically in the life sciences and healthcare (LSH) sectors. Following the Frankfurt, Atlanta, Mumbai, and Hyderabad locations, Shanghai is their most recent CEIV certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The CEIV Pharma certification ensures compliance to international standards including European Union and World Health Organization Good Distribution Practices (GDP), United States Pharmacopeia, and IATA temperature control regulations. The standards insist on secure, compliant, and efficient air-freight services, which Dachser successfully displayed.

In 2018, Dachser received its first CEIV Pharma certification for their Frankfurt branch in Germany. By 2019, their United States branch in Atlanta and two Indian branches – Mumbai and Hyderabad, had received the CEIV Pharma certificates. The certificates highlight Dachser’s commitment to LSH logistics excellence in delivering high-value, time-sensitive, temperature-controlled products leveraged by  Dachser’s global network of speed, consistency, and efficacy.

Intellectual Protection Efforts from United Arab Emirates (UAE) cause United States to lift UAE from Watch List of Intellectual Protection (IP)

United Arab Emirates (UAE) reaches a new milestone in Intellectual Protection (IP) from the United States Trade Representative (UTSR) decision to remove UAE from the watch list for IP protection and enforcement. In the UTSR annual report, it was reported that the UAE applied adequate and effective measures to protect and enforce intellectual property rights as per IP related international standards and global best practices. The annual report highlights the compliance and increased efforts of UAE that lead to the removal of the watchlist after longstanding IP concerns.

The UTSR stated in the report on global IP compliance that the UAE made progress on longstanding IP enforcement lead by federal authorities and local governments pushing a series of IP enforcements on longstanding IP enforcement standards. The decision holder H.E. Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, CEO and Chairman of DP World Group and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), welcomed the decision of the taking the UAE off the watchlist and underlined the UAE for the commitment in implementing IP regulations.

H.E. Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem stated, “We are pleased that Dubai Customs’ IP efforts have contributed to this achievement by the UAE. This underpins strategic plans to increase foreign trade growth, in fulfillment of the wise leadership’s directives and particularly the trade roadmap vision approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which sets out a five-year plan to boost Dubai’s foreign trade to Dh2 trillion,” as he boosted over UAE performance.

H.E. Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem explained that Dubai Customs has been actively engaged in tackling the illicit trade of counterfeits, while being in full corporation with the US and other foreign bodies. The Dubai Customs works in tandem with the IPR departs to enforces intellectual property and trademark laws by making sure that any IPR infringing goods are seized to prevent from entering local markets.

H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director General of Dubai Customs said, “Dubai Customs has long been steadfastly committed to intellectual property rights protection. In 2005, we established the IPR department, the first of its kind at the level of customs authorities in the Middle East, with the aim of optimizing coordination amongst different customs units and centers in the area of enforcement and protection of intellectual property rights,” when describing Dubai Customs efforts in protecting IPR laws.

In 2021, Dubai Customs organized twelve workshops to introduce training of distinguishing between counterfeit products targeted at 1,394 staff and students. This training led to Dubai Customs resolved 81 intellectual property disputes, with an estimated value of Dh 11.3 million and recycled 510,000 counterfeit items for 26 international brands.

The Director of the IPR department, Yousuf Ozair Mubarak, mentioned that Dubai Customs teams constantly communicate with US and foreign countries to understand their needs and requirements in respect of protection and enforcement of the IP rights to ensure business interests of their partnering organizations.
