U.S. Concentrated Orange Juice Import Slumps to $48M in April 2023

U.S. Concentrated Orange Juice Imports

In April 2023, supplies from abroad of concentrated orange juice decreased by -61.3% to 16K tons for the first time since January 2023, thus ending a two-month rising trend. In general, imports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when imports increased by 206% against the previous month.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports declined rapidly to $48M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 with an increase of 130% m-o-m.

Imports by Country

In April 2023, Mexico (9.2K tons) constituted the largest supplier of concentrated orange juice to the United States, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, concentrated orange juice imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Costa Rica (4.1K tons), twofold.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico amounted to -8.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Costa Rica (-2.3% per month) and Brazil (+12.0% per month).

In value terms, Mexico ($29M) constituted the largest supplier of concentrated orange juice to the United States, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Costa Rica ($11M), with a 23% share of total imports.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from Mexico amounted to -5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Costa Rica (+0.9% per month) and Brazil (+11.3% per month).

Import Prices by Country

In April 2023, the concentrated orange juice price amounted to $2,920 per ton (CIF, US), surging by 18% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 117% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,563 per ton. From August 2022 to April 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In April 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($3,139 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($2,507 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

China (55K units), the Philippines (42K units) and Vietnam (1.7K units) were the main suppliers of video projector imports to the United States, with a combined 96% share of total imports.

Over the period from March 2022 to March 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 8% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in March 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In March 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($40,517 per ton), while the average price for exports to Panama ($10,569 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jamaica (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Paint and Varnish Exports

In March 2023, paint and varnish exports from the United States soared to 11K tons, jumping by 17% compared with the previous month’s figure. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.

In value terms, paint and varnish exports skyrocketed to $276M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Canada (5.2K tons), Mexico (3.1K tons) and China (250 tons) were the main destinations of paint and varnish exports from the United States, with a combined 79% share of total exports. Panama and Jamaica lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 2.2%.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Panama (with a CAGR of +10.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the largest markets for paint and varnish exported from the United States were Canada ($126M), Mexico ($75M) and China ($10M), together comprising 76% of total exports. These countries were followed by Panama and Jamaica, which together accounted for a further 1%.

Television Receiver Price in United States Grows Slightly to $238 per Unit

U.S. Television Receiver Import Price in March 2023

In March 2023, the television receiver price amounted to $238 per unit (CIF, US), remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $301 per unit in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to March 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($329 per unit), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($108 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In value terms, television receiver imports soared to $909M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when imports increased by 35% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 1.6B units in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to March 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Mexico was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (-0.0% per month) and Vietnam (+0.3% per month).

In value terms, Mexico ($706M) constituted the largest supplier of television receiver to the United States, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($86M), with a 9.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with an 8.1% share.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from Mexico amounted to -2.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (-2.8% per month) and Vietnam (-0.9% per month).
