Qatar Airways Cargo, a global leader in air cargo transportation, is proud to announce it is the official host for the next IATA One Record Hackathon to be held from 24 to 26 November 2023, in Doha, Qatar.

An IATA hackathon is an around-the-clock event, that brings together teams of developers to innovate solutions that address an industry challenge.

Focused on industry standards and initiatives, developers deep dive into the aviation environment where they can work together to explore new business applications and generate exciting ideas. Solutions are presented to a jury, and the winners have the opportunity to share and communicate their solutions to the industry.

IATA’s hackathon program was launched in 2015, initially focusing on airlines’ retailing capabilities. The scope has since evolved to address other areas including environment, payment, cargo, accessibility, among many others.

The hackathon success relies on a simple recipe: access to technologies via Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), a clock-ticking healthy pressure, and an industry challenge to be solved. All these three ingredients together encourage the emergence of the following three objectives:

  • Development of new ideas for airline industry based on industry standards.
  • Disruption by exposing new products and services from new startups and corporations to the industry.
  • Enhancement of standards by exposing them to developer community who can provide direct feedback on the industry schemas.

From mid 2023, Air Europa Cargo customers will get to enjoy the efficiency of an end-to-end eBooking platform, complete with sustainability and financing features. Air Europa Cargo has chosen to launch its platform using CargoGATE, CargoAi’s white-label solution for airlines looking to develop and maintain their own booking portals.

The platform will enable Air Europa’s freight forwarders to search, book, track, and pay for all their shipments on Air Europa within minutes on the same interface. The payment functionality and CO2 tracking and reduction will be respectively powered by CargoAi’s recently launched CargoWALLET and Cargo2ZERO solutions.

Not only will the platform be entirely branded according to Air Europa Cargo’s guidelines, but the technical maintenance will also be fronted by CargoAi, allowing Air Europa Cargo customers to automatically benefit from all the latest features and improvements that are added on, such as Modify Booking or Advance Booking features which CargoAi has on its roadmap.

The worldwide launch of Air Europa Cargo’s eBooking platform will cover all of Air Europa Cargo’s products, except for Valuables. Due to the specific handling restrictions and limited request from its customers, freight forwarders booking this type of cargo will need to contact Air Europa Cargo directly.

Qatar Airways Cargo Says it With Flowers on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day has become a key date in Qatar Airways Cargo business calendar. On this occasion, the leading carrier is able to demonstrate the excellence of its extensive services and its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.

Transporting over 4,000 tons of flowers all around the world over a two-week period is a logistical prowess that only few airlines can achieve. And Qatar Airways Cargo is certainly at the top of the list. Exported from two main areas, Latin America (Ecuador and Colombia) and Africa (Uganda and Kenya), the flowers are travelling to 5 major international destinations: USA, Amsterdam (for distribution across Europe), Australia, the Middle East and Japan.

To satisfy the significant demand during this peak time, Qatar Airways Cargo is intensifying the frequency of its flights to increase capacity. This translates into 10 additional B777 freighter flights from Nairobi to Liege and 10 additional flights from Quito to Amsterdam and Miami, on top of the regular cargo and passenger flights. In addition, the carrier is also using road transport services from European airports to Amsterdam where logistics are set up for major consumer countries.

Ensuring that this fragile cargo is handled with the utmost care and delivered on time not only requires a great deal of planning and preparation from the Qatar Airways Cargo team but also a very high degree of expertise and experience. Qatar Airways Cargo has indeed been involved in the transportation of flowers from Nairobi for over 10 years and will be the largest cargo operator there by Valentine’s Day 2023. Moreover, always innovating to perfect its level of service, the carrier has implemented an elaborate temperature-controlled forwarding system to guarantee that flowers arrive fresh at their final destination. Because the Valentine’s Day period necessitates considerable coordination to arrange charters with the authorities and to manage the extra volumes and flights, close and constant contact with customers to ensure proper planning of shipments on the respective flight days is also essential.

True to its motto “Moved by People”, Qatar Airways Cargo can be trusted to deliver impeccable service and to guarantee that love will prevail on this special day.
