 Electric Blanket Import in United States Grows Dramatically to $422K in April 2023

U.S. Electric Blanket Imports

In April 2023, after seven months of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of electric blankets, when their volume increased by 44% to 25K units. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 with an increase of 343% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at 2.1M units in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to April 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, electric blanket imports soared to $422K (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when imports increased by 359% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 37M units in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to April 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In April 2023, China (25K units) was the main supplier of electric blanket to the United States, accounting for a approximately 99.9% share of total imports.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to -8.8%.

In value terms, China ($410K) constituted the largest supplier of electric blanket to the United States.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to -8.2%.

Import Prices by Country

In April 2023, the electric blanket price stood at $16.9 per unit (CIF, US), increasing by 122% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a mild increase from April 2022 to April 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on April 2023 figures, electric blanket import price increased by +121.6% against March 2023 indices. As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.

U.S. Concentrated Orange Juice Imports

In April 2023, supplies from abroad of concentrated orange juice decreased by -61.3% to 16K tons for the first time since January 2023, thus ending a two-month rising trend. In general, imports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when imports increased by 206% against the previous month.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports declined rapidly to $48M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 with an increase of 130% m-o-m.

Imports by Country

In April 2023, Mexico (9.2K tons) constituted the largest supplier of concentrated orange juice to the United States, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, concentrated orange juice imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Costa Rica (4.1K tons), twofold.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico amounted to -8.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Costa Rica (-2.3% per month) and Brazil (+12.0% per month).

In value terms, Mexico ($29M) constituted the largest supplier of concentrated orange juice to the United States, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Costa Rica ($11M), with a 23% share of total imports.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from Mexico amounted to -5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Costa Rica (+0.9% per month) and Brazil (+11.3% per month).

Import Prices by Country

In April 2023, the concentrated orange juice price amounted to $2,920 per ton (CIF, US), surging by 18% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 117% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,563 per ton. From August 2022 to April 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In April 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($3,139 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($2,507 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Costa Rica (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In February 2023, the preserved mackerel price amounted to $5,212 per ton (CIF, Spain), growing by 2.3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $5,780 per ton in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to February 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Morocco ($7,610 per ton), while the price for Ecuador ($804 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cabo Verde (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Spain Preserved Mackerel Imports

After two months of growth, purchases abroad of mackerel (prepared or preserved) decreased by -39% to 264 tons in February 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when imports increased by 267% month-to-month.

In value terms, preserved mackerel imports reduced sharply to $1.4M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Overall, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when imports increased by 260% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.9M. From June 2022 to February 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Spain Preserved Mackerel Imports by Country

Portugal (102 tons), Cabo Verde (81 tons) and China (47 tons) were the main suppliers of preserved mackerel imports to Spain, with a combined 87% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Germany, Morocco and Ecuador, which together accounted for a further 12%.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the biggest increases were in Germany (with a CAGR of +60.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest preserved mackerel suppliers to Spain were Cabo Verde ($603K), Portugal ($433K) and China ($140K), with a combined 85% share of total imports. France, Germany, Morocco and Ecuador lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on March 2023 figures, imports increased by +30.9% against February 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 with an increase of 43% month-to-month. China (55K units), the Philippines (42K units) and Vietnam (1.7K units) were the main suppliers of video projector imports to the United States, with a combined 96% share of total imports.

In value terms, the Philippines ($39M), China ($32M) and Vietnam ($4.8M) appeared to be the largest video projector suppliers to the United States, with a combined 75% share of total imports.

In February 2023, overseas purchases of passenger cars increased by 28% to 129K units for the first time since November 2022, thus ending a two-month declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when imports increased by 66% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 174K units in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to February 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, passenger car imports surged to $4.7B (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 with an increase of 52% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 5.3B units in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to February 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

United Kingdom Passenger Car Imports by Country

China (24K units), Spain (21K units) and the Czech Republic (12K units) were the main suppliers of passenger car imports to the UK, together accounting for 45% of total imports.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +11.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest passenger car suppliers to the UK were China ($596M), Spain ($450M) and Slovakia ($366M), with a combined 30% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, South Korea, Japan, Hungary, Belgium, Romania, Turkey, Mexico, the United States and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 31%.

For the third month in a row, the United States recorded growth in overseas shipments of prisms and mirrors, which increased by 31% to 338 tons in March 2023. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 when exports increased by 42% month-to-month. The exports peaked in March 2023.

In value terms, prisms and mirrors exports soared to $109M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable downturn.

Exports by Country

South Korea (149 tons) was the main destination for prisms and mirrors exports from the United States, accounting for a 44% share of total exports. Moreover, prisms and mirrors exports to South Korea exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (64 tons), twofold. Taiwan (Chinese) (28 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.3% share.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to South Korea totaled +3.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: China (-3.0% per month) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+0.9% per month).

In value terms, China ($16M), South Korea ($15M) and Japan ($10M) were the largest markets for prisms and mirrors exported from the United States worldwide, together comprising 37% of total exports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), the UK, Mexico and India, which together accounted for a further 13%.

Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of -0.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Export Prices by Country

In March 2023, the prisms and mirrors price amounted to $322K per ton (FOB, US), approximately reflecting the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 97% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $621K per ton. From January 2023 to March 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
