  • INTTRA eVGM service provides the capabilities for digital submission, receipt, processing, and auditing of VGMs.
  • Under the SOLAS VGM amendment going into effect July 1, every container must have a VGM before being loaded onto a ship.
  • Hapag-Lloyd is offering INTTRA as one option for customers submitting VGMs.

Liner shipping company Hapag-Lloyd is connecting with the INTTRA eVGM Service for facilitating compliance with new International Maritime Organization container weight requirements.

Under the IMO’s Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Verified Gross Mass (VGM) amendment going into effect on July 1, every shipping container must have a VGM, or certified weight, in order to be loaded onto a ship. Available in two versions—for carriers and shippers—the INTTRA eVGM Service provides the operational capabilities for digital submission, receipt, processing, and auditing of SOLAS-compliant VGMs.

In December 2015, the companies joined forces when Hapag-Lloyd became a founding member of the INTTRA eVGM Alliance, which has worked to help the industry address the challenges of SOLAS VGM with a digital approach.

“We are pleased to offer INTTRA as one option for our customers using INTTRA for submitting VGMs,” says Hans Schäfer, a managing director at Hapag-Lloyd.

Hapag-Lloyd has shown industry leadership in cultivating readiness for SOLAS VGM, and has a deep understanding of the comprehensive process requirements for efficient compliance,” says INTTRA’s President and COO Inna Kuznetsova. “So we are pleased that Hapag-Lloyd has chosen to expand our partnership by selecting the INTTRA eVGM Service to address this challenge.”

Hapag-Lloyd operates a fleet of 175 modern container ships and a total capacity of 955,000 TEU. The company has a container fleet of 1.6 million TEU, including one of the world’s largest reefer fleets.
