U.S. Lemon and Lime Price Surges 17% to $931 per Ton
U.S. Lemon And Lime Import Price per Ton August 2022
In August 2022, the lemon and lime price per ton amounted to $931, picking up by 17% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 26% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,411 per ton. From April 2022 to August 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Colombia ($1.1 per kg) and Chile ($1.1 per kg), while the price for Mexico ($891 per ton) and Argentina ($976 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
U.S. Lemon And Lime Imports
In August 2022, after five months of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of lemons And Limes, when their volume decreased by -0.2% to 96K tons. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 when imports increased by 31% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 96K tons in July 2022, and then contracted in the following month.
In value terms, lemon And Lime imports surged to $90M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 35% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $110M in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to August 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Lemon And Lime Imports by Country
In August 2022, Mexico (66K tons) constituted the largest supplier of lemon And Lime to the United States, accounting for a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, lemon And Lime imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Argentina (14K tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Chile (11K tons), with an 11% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico amounted to +4.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Argentina (+92.3% per month) and Chile (+158.2% per month).
In value terms, Mexico ($59M) constituted the largest supplier of lemon And Lime to the United States, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($14M), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 13% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Mexico totaled -4.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Argentina (+93.4% per month) and Chile (+148.9% per month).
