Trucking and Logistics Companies Face Bankruptcies, Layoffs Across US Over the past week, multiple trucking and logistics enterprises have filed for bankruptcy protection, while other transportation and logistics firms disclosed facility shutdowns and workforce reductions across the United States.

These bankruptcies and job cuts underscore persistent financial strains on transportation providers, despite considerable enhancements in the freight market.
The recent filings encompass a blend of Chapter 11 reorganizations and Chapter 7 liquidations involving trucking carriers, freight brokers, logistics advisors, and transportation service providers based in Illinois, Tennessee, Maryland, North Carolina, and Michigan.
Sparhawk Trucking Inc. and Sparhawk Truck and Trailer Inc., both headquartered in Wisconsin, recently alerted employees about possible layoffs or a shutdown as the companies pursue a buyer through bankruptcy proceedings. According to FMCSA data, Sparhawk Trucking runs 178 trucks and has 146 drivers. Company representatives stated that no definitive choices have been reached but advised employees not to presume the business will continue operating.
SP Trans Inc., a long-haul truckload carrier from Park Ridge, Illinois, submitted a bankruptcy filing in the Northern District of Illinois on Tuesday. The company reported assets and liabilities ranging from $500,000 to $1 million and indicated between one and 49 creditors. Federal records show the carrier had 13 drivers and was still an active motor carrier as of May.
SB Hauling & Crane Services LLC, based in Durham, North Carolina, filed for Chapter 11 protection on May 29 in the Middle District of North Carolina. The firm focuses on construction hauling, crane services, and debris removal, primarily operating in the Raleigh-Durham area.
M&L Express LLC, a long-distance trucking company from Hagerstown, Maryland, also filed for Chapter 11 protection on May 29. Federal records indicate the carrier historically operated nine tractors and logged over 1 million miles annually.
During the same week, several transportation companies transitioned into Chapter 7 liquidation proceedings.
