Intradco Global and Chapman Freeborn Collaborate to Transport 18 Giraffes from South Africa to Brazil

Intradco Global and parent company, Chapman Freeborn, have worked together on a charter flight to transport 18 giraffes from O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) to Río de Janeiro Galeão Airport (GIG).

Averaging 4.3-5.7 meters when fully grown, the animals were transported whilst still young to ensure they had the legally required head clearance in the 2.95 meter-high crates, which were made of metal and plywood to make them both sturdy and leak-proof.

When animals are transported by air, it is of utmost importance that their safety and happiness are at the forefront of the operation. As such, Intradco Global and Chapman Freeborn ensured the giraffes’ speedy loading to reduce the time spent on the ground at the airport. Two attendants traveled with them during their 10-hour direct flight, one of whom was a breeder who has known the giraffes their whole lives, continually monitoring their well-being and providing them with fresh food and water as required.

After arriving in Rio de Janeiro, cranes were used to efficiently offload the 6 crates, each containing 3 giraffes, from the 747F aircraft. The animals then entered a mandatory 30-day quarantine, which they will finish on 11th December to then be transported to their new home.

Alexander Kraynov from Intradco Global said, “This charter was in collaboration with the Chapman Freeborn South Africa team. Cargo Charter Manager, Gerhard Coetzee, was on the ground in Johannesburg communicating with the handling company and customs agents, and ensuring the loading went quickly and smoothly. Together we completed a successful operation that saw 18 exotic animals travel over 7,000 in safety and comfort.”

Intradco Global Aids in Rescue Mission of 88 Dogs

Intradco Global is used to dealing with animals of all shapes and sizes, but on this occasion, a paw-fect mission was completed when they aided in the rehoming of 88 rescue dogs. The dogs were flown from Costa Rica to Canada where they would travel onwards to their new homes.

Intradco Global worked with Toronto-based rescue organization, Save Our Scruff, who are dedicated to saving dogs and finding them loving, permanent homes. This specific rescue mission was nicknamed “Costapawlooza” (a reference to the annual music festival, Lollapalooza), and it saw dogs from all over Costa Rica traveling from San Jose International Airport (SJO) to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

The dogs traveled safely and securely in an Embraer 120 Brasilia cargo aircraft for the flight, which was 8 hours in total plus a short fuel stop in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Intradco Global Cargo Account Manager, Erica Resendes, traveled onboard with the dogs as an animal flight attendant, ensuring they were safe and happy and could receive any attention they needed during their journey.

Erica said, “Working on this project was an amazing heart-warming experience. It is so rewarding to know that Intradco Global has helped in this small way giving these sweet dogs a wonderful new life here in Canada.  A truly exceptional movement to be a part of!”

Upon their arrival in Toronto, half the dogs have been adopted to their forever homes, whilst the others are initially going to foster families waiting to join find their perfect forever home

Thanks to the hard work of Save Our Scruff and Intradco Global, they will all have wonderful owners for the rest of their lives.

Tom Lamb, Regional Manager North America at Intradco Global, explained, “Due to the lack of scheduled passenger flights caused by the covid pandemic, these essential dog rescue missions have turned to charter flights as an alternative solution. We worked closely with the airline, rescue charity and authorities to bring this project together and ensure the best outcome was achieved. Thankfully the dogs arrived safely into Toronto, to enjoy their new lives as Canadian citizens.”

Intradco Global Debuts their Innovative Pig Lift

This week Intradco Global introduced their brand new innovative Pig Lift, proving that not only can pigs fly, but they can get to their aircraft in style too!

The innovative Intradco Global Pig Lift comprises a custom-converted van that has been modified to enable pigs to transfer from their lorry transport to their crates, at varying heights, without having to navigate any ramps.

Both the front and the back of the Pig Lift can be powered with the touch of the button to ascend and descend, to accurately meet the pigs at the level they are at on their lorry and the level of crate they are walking onto. Without such technology, pigs must walk up and down sometimes steep ramps, which is not only potentially dangerous but can also be stressful for them.

Intradco Global’s Pig Lift puts the pigs’ safety and happiness at the forefront of the process.

The Pig Lift’s debut was on April 27th 2021 at Stansted Airport (STN), where 1,030 purebred registered breeding pigs were its first passengers. They were transferred from multi-storey lorries, that had travelled from Northamptonshire, onto two and three storey crates without the need to use any ramps or any moving parts that had to be manually adjusted.

The pigs then travelled on a Boeing 747-8F aircraft to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) in China, with a short stopover in Kazakhstan to freshen their food and water supplies.

Intradco Global’s Pig Lift is just one example of the company’s commitment to cutting-edge charter equipment with a focus on safety, comfort and animal welfare. Their livestock stalls, equine loading ramp and even their bespoke giraffe crates are just some of the equipment that is widely regarded as ‘best-in-class’, and now the Pig Lift can join that list too.

Intradco Global Transports 1,030 Purebred Breeding Pigs from the UK to China on Behalf of Genetics Company, Genesus

On Tuesday 27th April 2021, 1,030 purebred breeding pigs made the approx. 7,000-mile journey from Stansted Airport (STN) to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) in a Boeing 747-8F aircraft.

China is in need of imported pigs due to losing half of its native population to African swine fever since 2018, which accounts for approximately 30% of the global pig population.

The pigs were transported on behalf of Genesus, the largest independent producer of purebred swine globally, with registered populations of Landrace, Yorkshire, and Duroc pigs. Their focus is on non-GMO genetic improvement, which Genesus’ first UK partner, Bridge House Farm in Northamptonshire, is utilizing the highest of technology to achieve.

Pigs are weighed and electronically ID-tagged at birth, enabling extremely detailed data to be collected about the pigs from the start. A custom-made software package records the pigs’ performance, which informs what and how much they are fed based on their gender and breed.

Award-winning farmer Charlie Thompson, who is the sixth generation to run Bridge House Farm, tapped into the Chinese market during the past year when opportunities to transport livestock to Europe have been sparse.

The transport, conducted by Intradco Global, saw their new Pig Lift in action for the first time. The Intradco Global Pig Lift is a truck that has been custom converted to enable the pigs to safely and comfortably move from their transport lorry to their crates. Both the front and back of the Pig Lift are adjustable in height, meaning it can be tailored to suit the varying levels of both the lorry and the crates. This allows the pigs to walk from one to the other without having to navigate steep ramps.

The fourteen-hour journey from the UK to China was split up with a stopover in Kazakhstan, during which the pigs had their food and water supplies freshened.
