This bold declaration, delivered during the opening keynote by The Home Depot’s Chief Financial Officer, Richard McPhail, set the tone for an event defined by massive scale, hyper-efficiency, and rapid technological evolution. The event’s explosive growth even prompted MHI CEO John Paxton to announce that MODEX will expand to a second location in Las Vegas starting in October 2028. For the thousands of industry professionals walking the floors of the Georgia World Congress Center, the mandate was clear: the era of simply discovering technology has ended, and the focus must now shift entirely to physical execution.

Strikingly, 52% plan to spend over $1 million, while 17% are planning investments exceeding $10 million.

As Paxton highlighted, the industry has reached a major inflection point where artificial intelligence serves as the critical accelerant connecting technology, people, and physical systems. While previous years focused heavily on visibility and analytics, the 2026 conversation shifted toward using AI to directly influence operational execution. During a panel discussion, experts noted that successful organizations are scaling AI by applying it to predictable tasks first, while utilizing “human-in-the-loop” models to serve as a bridge for judgment-intensive decisions.

Keynote speaker Salim Ismail, an exponential strategist and founder of OpenExO, emphasized that we are already deep inside the “Exponential Age of AI”. The 2026 MHI Innovation Awards recognized some of the most groundbreaking solutions in the industry. The winners included:

  • Best Robotics Innovation: Anyware Robotics Inc., for its Pixmo solution that automates inbound operations without the need for fixed infrastructure.
