Bulk cargo handling reached over 115,000 tonnes, and livestock movements were nearly 40,000 head. The number of vessels calling at the ports in February grew by four percent to 237. Annual vessel calls exceeded 3,000, with significant volumes of building materials and livestock also handled.
Recent developments highlight the ports’ expanding capabilities. Hamad Port recently serviced its largest container vessel to date, an ultra-large container ship with a capacity of approximately 24,346 TEUs, setting a new record for the facility. Separately, the Old Doha Port welcomed a new luxury cruise ship on its inaugural visit, underscoring the terminal’s role in maritime tourism.
The strategic positioning and growing shipping network of Qatar’s ports are designed to facilitate efficient cargo movement and transshipment. This infrastructure supports the country’s position as a commercial and logistics center for the region. Hamad Port, described as the primary gateway for international trade, is a key driver of economic activity, influencing sectors such as industry, warehousing, and logistics services.
