GOODMAN GROUP BREAKS GROUND ON FIRST FLAGSHIP LOGISTICS PROJECT IN SOUTHERN CHINA
Goodman Group, the Australian-based developer of industrial space, recently broke ground on the Goodman Huiyang Industrial Park in Huiyang, Huizhou city, the company’s flagship project in southern China. The project is to be undertaken in phases, with 800,000 square feet scheduled for completion by September 2016. In addition to providing modern warehousing facilities, the industrial park is also seeking customers looking to establish regional distribution centers.

“As we expand our footprint across China, we are excited to commence our first project in Southern China,” says Philip Pearce, Goodman’s managing director for greater China. “Given the excellent connectivity to land, sea and air transportation, and Goodman’s proven ability to meet customers’ specific requirements, we are confident that this project will be well received in the market.” Goodman is also planning to develop Goodman Boluo Logistics Park, a second logistics and distribution facility in Huizhou city.

MAERSK LINE ADDS 12,900 PRIMELINE UNITS FROM CARRIER TRANSICOLD
Maersk Line is adding 12,900 Carrier Transicold PrimeLINE container refrigeration units to its fleet, which will help to improve the energy efficiency of the carrier’s refrigerated container operations. The order is among the largest ever placed for the PrimeLINE units and they are being installed on 40-foot high-cube containers for replacement and expansion of Maersk’s refrigerated container fleet. The PrimeLINE unit’s energy efficiency will help Maersk Line move toward its 2020 target for improving carbon dioxide efficiency by 30 percent, relative to a 2010 baseline.

The PrimeLINE unit has been meeting Maersk Line’s stringent total cost of ownership requirements since it was first introduced into the fleet in 2007. The units make significant operational and environmental improvements by reducing shipboard energy production requirements and associated greenhouse gas emissions.

PORT EVERGLADES WELCOMES LARGEST CONTAINER SHIP IN PORT’S HISTORY
The largest container cargo ship in the history of Broward County’s Port Everglades arrived on Oct. 18. Mediterranean Shipping Co.’s MSC Maria Elena is 107,849 gross tons, more than 1,104 feet long and has a capacity for 9,178 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units). This Post-Panamax cargo ship is larger than a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.

Florida-based SC Line inaugurated RO/RO service between Port Everglades, which is at the forefront of expanding trade with Cuba, and the Cuban ports of Mariel and Santiago on a route that also includes Panama and Colombia. Port Everglades has also offered shipping service to Cuba via Crowley Maritime since 2001, to carry food, humanitarian supplies and other approved items.
The Intermodal Container Transfer Facility, which opened adjacent to Port Everglades last year and is served by Florida East Coast Railway, has seen a 26 percent increase in volume over the past 12 months.

KENCO OPENS NEW UPPER MIDWEST DISTRIBUTION CENTER
Kenco has opened a new 300,000-square-foot distribution center (DC) in Kalamazoo, Michigan, that meets standards for handling medical products and includes 17 loading docks and 120 trailer parking spots. It replaces another nearby facility that Kenco has outgrown.

“Increased shipping volumes and strong customer demand for services prompted us to build the expanded DC,” explains Paula Hise, Kenco’s group vice president, Health and Personal Care. “We have leveraged this opportunity by including best-in-class warehouse and management tracking systems that provide our clients with centralized distribution and planning capabilities.”
Kenco will provide a full range of distribution services at the Kalamazoo DC, including order fulfillment, reverse logistics, raw materials management and transportation.

UPS WORLDWIDE EXPRESS SERVICE EXPANDS
UPS is expanding its UPS Worldwide Express service to more than 41,000 new postal codes around the world, creating earlier guaranteed-delivery options for customers that previously had only end-of-day guarantees. The company already delivers more packages internationally and offers more guaranteed small-package delivery options than any other integrated logistics company.

OLD DOMINION FREIGHT LINE ANNOUNCES OPERATIONAL ALLIANCE WITH MALLORY ALEXANDER
Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. announced it is entering into a strategic alliance with Mallory Alexander International Logistics, LLC, to enhance its ocean-forwarding offering.

Under the new alliance, Mallory Alexander—a licensed ocean transportation intermediary (OTI)—will perform all ocean freight forwarding back-office and operational services, and Old Dominion will serve as sales agent for Mallory Alexander.
