International Maritime Initiative Seeks African Government Partners for Modernization

A collaborative project is currently looking for government stakeholders in sub-Saharan Africa to participate in an initiative focused on maritime modernization. The program, which is a joint effort by the International Maritime Organization and the European Union, aims to provide technical assistance for reducing carbon emissions and advancing digital systems within the regional shipping industry.

Official government bodies such as ministries or agencies are invited to submit expressions of interest to the IMO. Any applications from non-governmental or private organizations must receive formal backing from their respective national government authorities to be considered.

The overarching goal of the project is to facilitate a shift toward a more sustainable and technologically sophisticated maritime sector across Africa. This effort is intended to enhance institutional capabilities, foster cooperation between nations, and improve preparedness for attracting necessary investments.
