In fact, 30% of U.S. companies plan to upgrade to new software to help mitigate disruptions caused by future disasters. AI is at the forefront of this trend.

AI can sift through existing data and processes and determine weaknesses that affect the speed and efficiency of a warehouse, factory or office. Its predictive analytics capabilities make this possible. It can alert workers to previous discrepancies and offer solutions to fix them. This level of optimization builds resilience, making the company better equipped to withstand the shock of a natural disaster and recover more quickly.

Adjustments like this significantly reduce the time and money lost from natural disasters and allow companies to bounce back faster after experiencing one.

Challenges and Considerations for Implementing AI 

AI can be used in supply chains to maximize operational efficiency and improve decision-making. Its predictive analytics, identification of weak spots, and ability to run factories and warehouses smoothly are beneficial any time, not just when natural disasters occur. This is why many companies are implementing it, recognizing its potential to save time and money.

However, it is important to remember that AI is still in its early stages. While updates are made constantly, AI can be flawed and make mistakes. Humans must still oversee all supply chain management and ensure that the AI’s changes are sound, as this will prevent further slowdowns in production during natural disasters. Complete trust is not yet achievable with AI, but being mindful of that allows it to be implemented safely and with maximum efficiency.

Another concern people tend to have with using AI in the workplace is its potential to replace a worker. Because AI still requires careful monitoring to ensure it operates correctly, it may never be advanced enough to run independently, meaning human oversight is still needed. Many companies also use AI not to replace people but to handle more time-consuming tasks, freeing up workers to focus on larger projects that require human critical thinking.
