Air

Cargo moving by air is a growing segment of international trade and transportation. While air comprises only around 10 percent of international shipments by volume, they constitute 30 percent of international trade by value. That means that high-value and time-sensitive products are the ones that will typically end up going by air.

Shipping by air, of course, will be more much expensive than any other mode of transportation. Developing a policy concerning when and how to ship by air will be important to any shipper that will using air cargo as part of a mix of transportation services.

3PLs offering air freight services will be able to help shippers analyze their transportation needs and shipment types, origins and desintations, and cost considerations to identify those products and shipments that are best suited to air.

Since air shipments are often expedited affairs, the 3PL will also know how to book that last-minute load, a process that can be more convoluted than meets the eye.
