The BNSF Railway has unveiled a new menu of expedited domestic intermodal service schedules moving cargo between Chicago and St. Paul, Minnesota and the Pacific Northwest.

The new schedules, slated to take effect September 14, feature expedited service seven days a week for westbound traffic and six days a week for eastbound traffic—one day more than is currently offered in the marketplace for the region.

The enhancement makes BNSF the only rail operator to offer expedited intermodal service linking Seattle and the U.S. Midwest.

BNSF’s two primary intermodal service options will now include expedited and standard. Standard service averages about 600 miles per day while expedited service averages about 800 miles per day, about 20 percent faster than the standard service option.

RAIL CARRIER INVESTS BILLIONS INTO NORTHERN OPERATIONAL REGION

In 2014 alone, BNSF built or expanded 138 rail facilities across its 32,500-mile network that spans 28 states and three Canadian provinces.

To maintain and improve its rail network to better serve customers’ transportation needs, BNSF has invested record capital investments of nearly $3.5 billion into its northern operational region alone.

“The added capacity and maintenance work we regularly conduct is progressing as planned and will generate significant benefits to our customers for years to come,” says Katie Farmer, vice president of BNSF’s consumer products group.
