Amazon Selects N.J. For New Logistics Site

Sharelines

  • Amazon announces site selection for the global company’s second fulfillment center to be in the same state as its first.
  • Hundreds of full-time jobs that offer wages 30 percent higher set to accompany Amazon’s new site selection.
  • Amazon will help grow the local and regional economy, provide jobs and opportunity, says Carteret Mayor.

Amazon is set to open a 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Carteret, New Jersey, its second such facility in the state. This new center keeps the e-commerce giant at the forefront of N.J.’s job creation efforts, as it is hiring at a rapid pace. The new center will generate hundreds of full-time positions upon its opening, the Seattle-based company announced Monday morning.

“We’re excited to open a new, state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Carteret, creating hundreds of full-time jobs that offer wages 30 percent higher than traditional retail stores and include comprehensive benefits on Day One, bonuses and stock awards,” says Mike Roth, Amazon’s vice president of North America Operations.

Amazon, which built its first New Jersey fulfillment center in Robbinsville, says it has created more than 2,000 jobs at the facility, located just off the New Jersey Turnpike, since it opened last year. In late April this year, the company announced it is looking to hire an additional 800 full-time workers.

Carteret Mayor Daniel Reiman says that Amazon’s decision is “recognition of our aggressive and ongoing redevelopment efforts.

“Amazon,” he adds, “is the type of corporate partner that will help grow our local and regional economy, provide jobs and opportunity for our residents and strengthen our expanding corporate tax base. We look forward to a long-term working partnership.”
