The Sri Lanka Navy, with assists from the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, fought a fire on board the 13,798 TEU MSC Daniela which took place on Monday 33 nautical miles off Colombo harbor, Sri Lanka.

Twenty-one crew members were on board the vessel when the fire broke out. There has been no announcement of the cause of the conflagration.

The Sri Lanka Navy has released dramatic images of the rescue effort.

Two Fast Attack Craft of the the Sri Lanka Navy and two tugs of the Sri Lankan Port Authority participated in the initial efforts. The Indian later dispatched two vessels, Shoor and Sagara to help, both of which are equipped with firefighting equipment and have specialized firefighting personnel onboard. The Indian Navy had also directed two of its ships to the location.

Three more Sri Lankan Fast Attack Craft were dispatched to evacuate the 21 crew members. The Sri Lanka Air Force and the Indian Coast Guard also provided helicopters to augment the combined firefighting efforts.
