Members of the OCEAN Alliance—COSCO Container Lines, CMA CGM, Evergreen Line, and Orient Overseas Container Line—signed a document yesterday entitled the Day One Product, which sets out the proposed alliance’s network, including port rotation for each service loop.

The Day One network intends to deploy around 350 container vessels with an estimated total carrying capacity of 3.5 million TEUs to provide one of the most comprehensive service coverage in the market on the following trade lanes. The vessel deployment details for each service loop, is due to be released later this month.

The network includes 20 transpacific services with an estimated 160 port pairs, including 13 Asia-West Coast North America services, seven Asia-East Coast North America and U.S. Gulf services. Six Asia-Europe services are planned with an estimated 110 port pairs as are five Asia-Mediterranean services with 165 port pairs. Rounding out the offering are three transatlantic services, with 70 port pairs; five Asia-Middle East services, with 70 port pairs; and two Asia-Red Sea services, with 35 port pairs.

“The top priority of the OCEAN Alliance,” said a statement from the carriers, “is service quality and schedule reliability. Customers will benefit from a competitive selection of sailing schedules and direct port pairs, fast transit times, and a highly efficient fleet of vessels to cater to the needs of today’s demanding and increasingly green global supply chains.”

Members of the OCEAN Alliance have filed the Master Alliance Agreement with China’s Ministry of Transport. The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission has already expressed approval of the agreement, as has and South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

The OCEAN Alliance has also completed its EU self-assessment compliance review. “The OCEAN ALLIANCE is satisfied that its agreement and services are compliant with EU regulatory requirements,” said he carrier statement, “following satisfactory completion of a self-assessment of its activities under EU competition rules and discussions with the European Commission.”

Moving forward, carriers said they will continue to work with all authorities to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and to secure the necessary regulatory approvals for the OCEAN Alliance to commence operations beginning April 1, 2017.
