According to a joint release reported by FreightWaves, FedEx is directing approximately $250 million toward a dedicated cargo facility at the new Navi Mumbai airport. The investment will fund equipment for the building, including high-speed conveyors, dimensional scanners, security screening, and automated sorting systems.

Developers recently broke ground on a cargo campus that will contain a terminal for the logistics company. The Adani Group, which manages the airport, is constructing the new air hub. FedEx has secured a twenty-year lease for a 300,000-square-foot parcel consolidation center at the site.

An Adani representative indicated the facility is projected to be operational in roughly 27 to 32 months. The design incorporates adjacent aircraft parking spaces to streamline loading and unloading processes. The broader integrated cargo facility commissioned by Adani is intended to function as a trade gateway for western India.

When fully developed, the entire cargo area is planned to handle up to 3.5 million tons per year. Officials noted the complex’s location offers advantages due to its connections to multimodal transport networks and nearby industrial production.

The new hub is engineered to increase network capacity and efficiency, especially for time-sensitive goods like electronics, engineering products, pharmaceuticals, and perishables moving through western India. A company executive stated that the hub aligns global network capabilities with a key trade corridor to improve reliability and speed for customers.

This project follows other recent airport investments by FedEx, including the consolidation of operations into a new facility at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and preparations for a major sort center expansion at its Memphis air hub.
