By functioning as a sort of virtual warehouse, Honor enables all levels of distributors to offer additional products to customers without needing to keep those items in stock. For instance, it allows vendors to service small distributors that may not be able to purchase in direct quantities while also providing a fill-in option for immediate need for large distributors.

Cardinal Health not only specializes in the distribution of pharmaceuticals and medical devices—products it handles end up in 75 percent of the nation’s hospitals—but also manufactures medical and surgical supplies such as gloves and fluid management items. It recently improved its ability to serve the more than 100,000 locations it works with by opening a new warehouse in Tennessee. The 307,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility is dedicated to ambient product storage and essentially doubles the company’s storage capacity. According to Jennifer Fillman, vice president and general manager of Cardinal Health Specialty Services, the new warehouse will “enable us to expand our specialty zones in our existing businesses [as] customers will benefit from improved work flow and flow through the warehouse.”

The global giant recently upped its profile in the Life Sciences and Healthcare sector when it launched DHL Ocean Thermonet, a freight product specifically tailored to those sectors—especially pharmaceuticals as the industry increasingly looks for ocean freight solutions. Thermonet enables constant monitoring of temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products with sensors constantly measuring temperature, humidity and location parameters, allowing for intervention at short notice in case of incidents. “With Thermonet, we further improve visibility and reliability in the ocean mode of transportation, which is an increasing requirement from customers, especially in the Life Sciences and Healthcare industry,” says Andreas Boedeker, global head of Ocean Freight, DHL Global Forwarding.
