DP World Sets Ambitious New Carbon Reduction Targets with SBTi Validation
DP World has achieved a significant milestone in its sustainability efforts, securing validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its ambitious carbon reduction goals. The company has committed to reducing scope 1 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% by 2030, using 2022 as a baseline. In addition, DP World aims to cut scope 2 GHG emissions by 62.2% and reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions by 28% within the same timeframe.

This commitment follows DP World’s earlier achievement of a 13% reduction in emissions since 2022. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, emphasized the company’s dedication to sustainability, stating, “DP World is committed to leading the supply chain industry towards a more sustainable and efficient future, and ultimately achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The SBTi’s validation confirms the strength and ambition of our plans as we remain committed to playing a pivotal role in uniting our industry for a better tomorrow.”
Piotr Konopka, Group Vice President at DP World, Global Decarbonization & Energy, expressed enthusiasm over the SBTi validation, noting that the company will continue to push forward in various areas, including equipment electrification, renewable energy, efficiency, and low carbon fuels. Konopka also highlighted DP World’s commitment to industry-wide initiatives such as green trade corridors and portside electrification, exemplified by their Zero Emissions Port Alliance.
In line with these efforts, earlier this month, DP World partnered with Pledge to assess the impact of its Modal Shift Program (MSP), which aims to transition road freight to rail, further reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
