YUSEN LOGISTICS CONTINUES ITS EXPANSION IN VIETNAM
Yusen Logistics (Vietnam) Co. Ltd. (YL-VN) continues its expansion into Vietnam with a new warehouse in Hai Phong City, northern Vietnam. The Yusen facility is the only multi-purpose warehouse complex in Hai Phong and provides support for companies expanding in the region. The new campus comprises a 129,166-square-foot warehouse, a 256,934-square-foot empty container depot with storage capacity for 3,000 20-foot equivalent units and a vehicle yard. YL-VN’s former Hai Phong Port offices have been relocated to this new campus to bring together Customs clearance, NVOCC and sales functions into one location.

TRANSPLACE ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF CANADIAN OPERATION
Transplace is expanding to both Calgary and the Greater Montreal area, further developing its business across Canada and cross-border throughout North America. “We are excited to announce the expansion of our Canadian division. The new facility in Quebec is surrounded by a unique and distinct transportation community of shippers and carriers, and Transplace has the resources, technology and experience ready to serve this province,” says George Abernathy, Transplace president and chief commercial officer. “The Calgary office, located in the heart of large shale oil reserves, is a direct reflection of our oil and gas expertise and services. MOL LOGISTICS OPENS QUANG NINH OFFICE IN VIETNAM
MLG Vietnam, the MOL Logistics subsidiary established in 2005, has opened a new office in the Quang Ninh Province of northeastern Vietnam, its eighth location in the country. With Vietnam’s economic growth spreading to local areas, the Quang Ninh province is drawing attention as an up-and-coming production center for automobiles and related products. MLG Vietnam says it will provide more efficiently managed logistics services, including customs operations in its territorial customs offices and on-site shipment operations at plants with drayage and other domestic shipping arrangements in areas to the northeast of Haiphong.

PORT OF OAKLAND BREAKS ITS ALL-TIME CARGO HANDLING RECORD
Cargo volume has reached an all-time high at the Port of Oakland. The port has handled an equivalent of 2.394 million 20-foot freight containers in 2014, breaking the record of 2.391 million in 2009. The difference? A 20 percent surge in the month of December. The port attributes the cargo surge to three factors: stronger U.S. demand for Asian manufactured goods, its own marketing efforts, and cargo diversions from the freight backlog at congested Southern California ports. A strategic business objective to focus on import growth has proven profitable for the Port of Oakland, as import volume for the year increased 5.29 percent.

SEA STAR LAUNCHES NEW BARGE SERVICE FROM JAXPORT
Sea Star’s new barge service to Puerto Rico from JAXPORT began on Jan. 22, carrying both dry and refrigerated containers. The additional container capacity complements Sea Star’s current twice weekly ship service between Jacksonville and Puerto Rico. This will be a weekly service handled by two barges and will serve as a bridge until delivery of the company’s first of two new LNG-powered container ships later this year.
