DHL Supply Chain has begun constructing a new European Battery Logistics Hub in Holtum, the Netherlands, as reported by Container News. The facility will offer 17,000 square meters of storage and service space specifically for high-voltage batteries. It will be directly linked to DHL Supply Chain’s existing automotive logistics operation in Holtum, forming a logistics campus dedicated to electric mobility and energy storage.

The hub is expected to start operations in early 2027. It will handle electric vehicle batteries and battery energy storage systems (BESS), including those for home storage and solar energy applications. DHL has noted that battery logistics demand is expanding across the automotive, industrial, and energy sectors. The site will provide services such as battery storage, diagnostics, testing, charging, refurbishment, reverse logistics, and recycling preparation.

According to DHL, the facility will support circular supply chain models and sustainable battery management. The campus is situated near major European transport routes and close to a container and barge terminal on the Juliana Canal. This project is part of DHL Group’s Strategy 2030, which focuses on electric mobility, renewable energy, and circular supply chains.
