San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) has entered into an agreement with UPS to add flight operations within the Inland Empire in support of the peak holiday season. UPS will operate four flights per week using 757 aircraft from SBD to Louisville, Kentucky, in this month.

Located 60 miles east of Los Angeles along the I-10 corridor, SBD has a new air cargo facility located adjacent to 60 acres of aircraft ramp, and convenient access to three major interstate highways—I-10, I-210, and I-215. The airport’s location, combined with newly expanded state-of-the-art infrastructure, alows air cargo operators are able to expedite deliveries to end users and consumers.

“This is our busiest time of year, and with the huge spike in holiday shipments, we need additional capacity to deliver for our customers. The flights from SBD will fly directly to Worldport, our main air hub in Louisville, connecting the Inland Empire to UPS’s worldwide network,” Tom Cuce, president of UPS’s South California District said. UPS expects to deliver more than 700 million packages globally between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, a 14 percent increase over 2015.

“UPS is a major employer in the region,” added Carey Davis, mayor of the City of San Bernardino and president of the San Bernardino International Airport Authority. “With state-of-the-art facilities, availability of specialized cargo equipment, and attractive cost structure, SBD is well positioned to support UPS’s air cargo needs.”

In recent years, SBD has made key investments to support air cargo activities which include tremendous expansion and development potential. “SBD offers a competitive environment for air cargo companies and freight forwarders,” a statement said.

SBD is the former Norton Air Force Base which was converted to civilian use in 1992 and later became certified as a commercial airport by the FAA. The airport offers air cargo services and maintenance repair and overhaul businesses and is positioning itself to provide domestic and international passenger service.
