Trek Bikes, a major bicycle and cycling product manufacturer and distributor, has selected its Amber Road’s Trade Automation solution to lower landed costs and manage global trade.

Trek bicycles and cycling products are sold through 5,000 independently-owned retail locations in over 90 countries across North and South America, Europe, and Asia.

Looking to automate its global supply chain, shipping, and product classification processes, Trek Bikes selected Amber Road’s cloud-based Trade Automation solution, which is expected to provide Trek with a return on their investment within just three years by lowering many costs associated with logistics and trade operations.

Trek especially needed a unified platform for visibility into its supply chain milestone activities to combat high demurrage and detention fees. Companies routinely incur these fees when they are unable to carefully monitor cargo arrival or in-transit cycle times. Amber Road’s solution will help manage these events and decrease Trek Bikes’ costs.

“Trek looks forward to reducing reliance on expedited courier shipments, lowering freight expenses, and reducing manual efforts, while more effectively managing landed costs through its partnership with Amber Road,” said Roger Gierhart, vice president of supply chain at Trek Bikes.

Trek anticipates improved supplier productivity, coordination, and management of confirmed orders throughout the purchasing cycle with Amber Road’s supplier portal. With increased supply chain visibility, the company expects to lower expedited freight costs, minimize in-transit inventories, reduce detention and demurrage costs, and shorten transit times. By centralizing ocean rate procurement, Trek can easily comparison shop, gaining control of air and ocean freight costs as well as allowing for order and container consolidation.

Using Amber Road’s Global Product Master, Trek will gain access to accurate classification information through a centralized data repository to support supply chain decisions. The company will also reduce costs by automating the ISF filing process.

“We applaud Trek’s commitment to streamlining its supply chain and trade compliance processes with one centralized global trade management solution,” said Jim Preuninger, Chief Executive Officer of Amber Road. “We look forward to helping them lower logistics costs and expand their global business.”
