Maersk Line announced that it has expanded its presence in Iran with the addition of the port of Bushehr to the carriers’ services.

Bushehr is the largest and most important port for transportation of commercial goods within the Bushehr province in Iran. With a total throughput of seven-million tons, this port is capable of offering services for all containerized cargos, and most significantly refrigerated products. The port has enhanced capabilities for reefer plugs and storage facilities.

Bushehr enjoys the availability of 400 reefer plugs at the port along with cold-storage warehouses with a total capacity of 5,000 tons (below and above zero). The port also offers quick and easy access to important markets in Iran due to the port’s proximity to urban areas. It also offers short marine distances to the neighbouring ports such as those in Saudi Arabia, Qatar. and Bahrain.

Maersk Line’s service to the port of Bushehr will consist of a feeder service off of its mainline services from points across the carrier’s global network to the port of Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates. From Jebel Ali, the first sailing on a direct and weekly feeder connection to Bushehr, Iran, took place on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.

With that enhancement to its service Maersk Line now offers shippers two gateways to Iran, the port of Bandar Abbas and the port of Bushehr. Maersk Line’s Iran office is located in Tehran.

Maersk Line has added 45,000 new reefer containers in the last year to carry perishable goods to and from its service network across the globe. The ship line’s reefer fleet now totals 270,000 containers.

All of Maersk Line’s reefer containers are equipped with the latest innovation of Remote Container Management (RCM) technology that allows the carrier to monitor reefer containers in real time whether on land or at sea.
