Crowley Maritime Corp Begins Restructuring Efforts
Crowley Logistics Effective January 1
As 2019 quickly approaches, global corporations turn their focus on next year’s planning initiatives and goals. From finalizing next steps for recent acquisitions, investing in advanced automated solutions, and expanding company organizations, changes are happening within the global supply chain and trade sectors almost as quickly as tariff news updates.
A prime example of this is the recent announcement from Crowley Maritime Corporation merging its liner services group into Crowley Logistics in an effort to expand operational capabilities and customer solutions.
With a January 1 implementation, chairman and CEO Tom Crowley confirmed the restructuring plan is essential in supporting the company’s successful placement within the logistics business sector.
Crowley commented: “We have been moving in this direction for a while, and with the pending retirement of John Hourihan, senior vice president and general manager of Puerto Rico services, at the end of this year, this is an opportunity to restructure.”
Steve Collar will be leading efforts and all aspects of the logistics segment, which is now reported to be a “1 billion-a-year enterprise.” The goal is to create an all-in-one solution for customers who are looking for a company that can provide end-to-end services inclusive of:
-Ocean, land and air transportation
-Commercial transportation management
-Supply chain and distribution services
–Freight forwarding and warehousing
–Cargo risks and customs compliance
“The integration of the liner services and logistics organizations into a singular, highly focused resource for our customers will allow us to take a holistic approach to maximizing the efficiency of their supply chains,” senior vice president and general manager Steve Collar said.
The restructuring of operations for liner shipping is one of four initiatives announced earlier in the year as part of the complete corporate integration plan. The four business units in the works include Crowley Fuels, Crowley Solutions, Crowley Shipping, and of course, Crowley Logistics.
